The Contract and Commercial Law Act 2017 (CCLA) came into force on 1 September 2017. The CCLA repeals and consolidates a number of commercial statutes that are commonly referred to in standard contract templates, including the Contracts (Privity) Act 1982, the Sale of Goods Act 1908 and the Sale of Goods (United Nations Convention) Act 1994.

While the CCLA makes it clear that references to the repealed statutes in contracts entered into prior to 1 September 2017 are treated as being references to the CCLA equivalent, contracts entered into after 1 September 2017 should be updated to reflect the new regime.

If you use templates regularly and you haven't already done so, we suggest reviewing and updating your existing templates to ensure they refer to the relevant provisions in the CCLA and not the repealed statutes.
